Hello girlbosses and boybosses. I’ve learned a lot while being a broad.
(Here’s the part where I pretend that typo wasn’t intentional:) HAHA! OMG so silly, the silliest! I MEANT to say I am currently abroad! Ha! Classic comedy.
Hope that was satisfactory. Anyways, I learned that Americans are apparently seen as super forking loud. Which I could’ve guessed, but it’s weird to see in action. My family’s normal talking volume gets us some “shush” looks. I’m already considered loud compared to other Americans, so this is really unfortunate for me. At least now, I can blame my volume on my American-ness and not on… myself.
But people are generally nice! And it’s been fun exploring some international coffee. I have quite a few caffeine dealers waiting in the wings to be reviewed, but first on the list is the LAST place I visited in London: Blank Street Coffee! I do this one first because I have terrible news: it’s a US-based coffee chain (*cue screams of horror because that, in fact, defeats the purpose of an international review*)
HEY. I MAKE THE RULES. Tee hee :D review time!
1. Location: 5/5
This lil guy was inside an underground (subway, tube, insert other synonym) station. SUPER convenient! And the underground station was super close to our flat; what fun!
2. Aesthetic/vibes: 11/10
Woah, an 11? HUH? But Cass, this place literally had no f*cking chairs.
Well, sitting is so last season, and the vibes here were SO GOOD! Let’s take a walk through my visit.
Boom. I enter. J’entre. Snap a pic. The result:
Okay hilarious barista man. The staff were SUPER friendly and weirdly happy for working at a coffee station at a busy af transit station.
Boom part two: I get my coffee. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS (feat. Mom):
Okay purr. I say “wow so beautiful,” then barista man calls me beautiful (MARTIN: SIC ‘EM, BOY!!!) THEN, my brother gets his mocha. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS:
So much happened in a short period of time. 11/10 I have whiplash.
3. Coffee options: 8/10
Their signature drinks include a blueberry matcha and an iced pistachio latte, while their regular menu sports a grapefruit cold brew spritz and a shaken chai cold brew. The options are super unique, especially for a chain.
4. Actual coffee: 20/20
Okay hear me out. I got an iced strawberries and cream latte, and it was magical. Strawberry and espresso may seem like a weird pairing at first, but it worked rather wonderfully, as the strawberry flavor wasnt sickly sweet, but rather was a nice foil to the espresso. They are like the odd couple.
I was thinking about how to recreate it at home and the only thing I can think of is to make a regular iced latte but use strawberry milk instead of regular. Should I try it? Answer is yes.
I really couldnt think of anything I didnt like about this latte. Especially given the beautiful presentation of my iced latte, and the bear latte art for my brothers drink. Wow!
5. Prices: 8/10
AN iced strawberries and cream latte is $5.25 in US monies. That’s gotta be the best score we have had here in a HOT MINUTE. I don’t miss paying $8.50 for my Sacramento lattes (yes yes I know, $8.50 is insane. Leave me alone).
6. Cups: 4.99/5
WOAH! A rare perfect score on cups. I always thought the cup bar was low, and that this category was easy points for good caffeine dealers, yet every time I am disappointed. Not today! The iced cup had a printed store name (not a logo, hence the .01 deduction), and the hot cup was this beautiful sage green color. So aesthetically pleasing. So delicious.
FINAL SCORE: 56.99/60= 95%
AND THE CROWD GOES WILDDDDDD!!!! A solid, beautiful, passing with flying colors, A. I did some archive searching, and we havent had an A since August 2022. Which isnt my fault or anything. My scoring system is scientific and objective, so if you have a problem with it… please dont?
Glad we cleared that up. Anyways, Ill miss Blank Street, but maybe one day I can go visit a Blank Street, USA? One can dream. And that wraps up my first London review! See you all later, skaters.
