Keep in mind that I walk around Sacramento on my internship days. The train train (choo choo) lets off at I and 5th street, and there’s only so far my feet will take me for a latte. Sometimes I’ve pushed the envelope, like with Scorpio Coffee on S and 16th (one of many caffeine dealers, by the way, that rest in my graveyard of unreviewed coffee shops).
But I prefer to make a less tiresome journey. About two months ago, I journeyed to Blueprint Coffee in Sacramento. I drank, took pictures, and drafted a mental review.
And then, Blueprint lay deceased in the graveyard of unreviewed coffee shops. We had a funeral. Then a wake. Unrelated question: what is a wake?
More related question: how is Blueprint Coffee?
Well we are all about to find out together because I went back!! I returned, this time fully set on giving it the ol Caffeinated Content review. So lets dive in, and take one more step in reviving the victims of my review graveyard.
1. Location: 3.5/5
Blueprint Coffee resides closer to the American River, which makes it in the opposite direction of town, and overall out of the way. However, it’s not too far south, and it also resides in what I call “Old Timey Town.” It’s actually called Old Sacramento Waterfront Historic District, a National Historic Landmark District that pays homage to California’s Gold Rush, with architecture mimicking those of that time period. It’s honestly super fun to just walk around and look at, and I felt like I was in an old western movie. Or Back to the Future 3.
2. Aesthetic/vibes: 7.5/10
This corner shop is light, bright, and minimalist. The shop is rectangular-ish, with the lengthier side set straight against the street, decorated with massive windows, making the store aflush with natural light. The walls are white and bright, the coffee bar small and simple, and there’s just a few spaces to sit. It’s pretty damn calming, but what really makes it stand out is the Blueprint Mission: Blueprint is partnered with Sacramento’s Project Church. 100% not for profit, Blueprint puts all their proceeds to make a difference in Sac.
3. Coffee options: 7/10
All the regulars are there, and while there is no seasonal menu, there is a specialty drink called the “Chagaccino,” an espresso drink with chaga mushroms, spices, and milk of choice. This was a super cool addition, and a rare one at that!
You may recall from my Wunderground post, but mushroom infused coffee is a bit of a trend nowadays; the mushrooms have antioxidants that can help boost brain function, support immunity, and all-in-all make you feel at your best. I love this quirky lil option! And if you’re wondering, no, it doesn’t taste like mushrooms
4. Actual coffee: 17/20
My chagga-choo-ccino was very nice! This drink is flavored with cinammon, vanilla, cacao, and monk fruit sweetener. I don’t know what monk fruit is but I DO know that all this good-good makes for a really flavorful and fun drink. It was quite chilly in Sac, so I was serenaded by the warm version of this drink, and I highly recommend it.
5. Prices: 6/10
My 16oz chagga chagga choo choo cost me $7.20. Their regular coffee options were quite cheaper, ringing in at $4.50 if you just want a regular latte.
6. Cups: 4/5
The cheery chagga chagga choo choo ccino sported a printed logo on a sleeve. The barista made some awesome latte art, and I was able to get this cool picture.
Last time I went there, I got this even COOLER picture
FINAL SCORE: 45/60 = 75%
Blueprint Coffee gets exactly 75%, and I’m not complaining. There are a few very simple changes this place could make to really push it over the top. But even without adjustments, its a pleasant and solid place with a funky cool drink option. Its the good life!
Alright theres that one in the bag. See y’all later, and don’t forget to enter to win a free sticker!
Bye :)
